Water & Sanitation supports and assists local development initiatives by working in partnership with the local authorities and nonprofits to help plan, design and build necessary infrastructure such as access to drinking water (not just clean water), provide wastewater treatment solutions, and develop road networks. The Center for Entrepreneurial Food Producers in Indonesia exists to train young (under 40 yrs old) food producers with entry level involvement in sustainable agribusiness activities. Based in an island province with hundreds of small island communities, the business brings economic development through providing new revenue sources as well as working to see communities become healthier, happier, and more productive.

Village Library System
One of our longest-standing projects operates a system of village libraries or “reading posts” in central Sumatra (Indonesia). These provide not only easy access to books, but also act as mini-community centers where our partners and volunteers encourage children and adults to read, tutor, help with homework, and facilitate community transformation. Transformation is enabled by hosting presentations and discussions with local residents on how to tackle community challenges in the areas of healthcare, education, housing, and unemployment.
Wild Sumatra Eco-Tourism
Wild Sumatra Tours works with rural communities to empower local guides, helping connect them with off-the-beaten-path adventurers looking for authentic trekking and cultural experiences in the Bengkulu region. Due to the impact of COVID on tourism, they’ve expanded their efforts to include sustainable coffee production and agricultural research and development. Working and offering training with their local communities empowers the local cultures to take pride in themselves, their culture, and their environment.
