In so many areas of the world, safe employment and job training can be the difference between life and death, and can be the foothold needed to escape the cycle of poverty. These 21 artisan-based businesses are not about hobbies or having a fun craft to do with the kids. Check out this example below:

One of Latitudes' partners, The Master's Handicrafts, employs women working out of their homes with traditional handicrafts. Amina is one of these women. She uses her skills in crocheting to develop and produce crocheted stuffed animals to sell. Her excellent skills in creating high quality products allow for successful sales in the US market. Each stuffed animal she makes means more income for her family, food on their table, and purchasing other vital needs.

In 2019, Amina's teenage son was diagnosed with a brain tumor and passed away in 2020. Her home-based handicraft job was crucial in helping the family pay for medical treatment, care for him throughout his illness, and to continue to provide for the rest of Amina's family during this difficult time and the grief that followed. Amina has since welcomed another child, and continues to care for her family's needs with the income earned making these expertly crafted products from home. To top it all off, Amina shares her orders with other women. She’s impacting other lives with her own generosity.
